What dual-use actually means
Not all 2-in-1 claims work the same way:
Swappable atomizers
The most common approach - one battery, two chambers you screw on. Cleanest separation of flavours and the easiest to maintain.
Insert-based
A single chamber that takes a concentrate insert. Fewer parts to carry, but residue transfer between materials is more likely.
True hybrid
Desktop units like the Mighty handle both through convection without swapping anything. Best performance, highest price.
Read the spec
Some pens marketed as dual-use are really wax pens with a loose herb chamber. If flower performance matters, check the heating method.
Is one device enough?
Convenience
One battery, one charger, one pocket. The obvious argument, and for occasional use it holds.
Compromise
A device that does both rarely matches a dedicated unit at either. Heavy flower users usually end up preferring a dedicated herb vape.
Cleaning
Two chambers means two cleaning routines. Residue carried between materials is the most common complaint.
Cost
Usually cheaper than buying a dedicated vaporizer for each - the reason most people start here.

Can one vaporizer really do both dry herb and wax?
Yes, but usually by swapping the chamber or atomizer rather than doing both at once. Devices that switch properly work well; pens marketed as 2-in-1 that use a single chamber for both tend to compromise flower performance.
Do dual-use vaporizers need different temperatures?
Yes. Dry herb runs around 180-220C; concentrates want 260C and above. Any genuine dual-use device gives you temperature control across both ranges - if it does not, it is not really dual-use.
Does flavour carry over between herb and wax?
It can, especially with insert-based designs that share a chamber. Clean the chamber when switching materials, and prefer swappable-atomizer designs if this matters to you.
Is it better to buy two separate vaporizers?
If you use both materials heavily, yes - a dedicated dry herb vaporizer and a dedicated wax vaporizer each outperform a compromise device. For occasional second-material use, dual-use is the better value.
