How to choose a vape pen

What actually separates one pen from another:

Thread and fit

510-thread is the near-universal standard and fits most cartridges. Proprietary pods only fit their own brand — check before you buy a replacement.

Voltage control

Fixed-voltage pens are simplest. Variable voltage (usually 2.4–4.0V) matters because thick oils need more power and thin distillate burns at high voltage.

What you're vaping

Oil cartridges need a simple battery. Wax needs a coil atomizer. Dry herb needs a heating chamber — the three are not interchangeable.

Battery capacity

350mAh suits light use. 900mAh+ carries a heavy user through the day. Auto-draw pens have no button; you just inhale.

510 batteries vs all-in-one pens

510 battery

Takes any standard cartridge. Cheapest entry, easiest to replace, and you keep the battery when the cart is done.

All-in-one

Battery and chamber in one unit, usually for wax. Fewer parts to lose, but the whole pen is disposable once the coil dies.

Refillable vs pre-filled

A refillable cart lets you choose your own oil and costs less per gram. Pre-filled is convenience at a premium.

Auto-draw vs button

Auto-draw fires on inhale — discreet and simple. A button gives you pre-heat and voltage control.

Frequently asked questions

What is a 510-thread vape pen?

510 refers to the threading standard — 10 threads of 0.5mm — that connects a cartridge to a battery. It is the most common fitting in the industry, so a 510 battery works with the large majority of oil cartridges regardless of brand.

What voltage should I vape a cartridge at?

Most distillate cartridges run best between 2.8V and 3.4V. Below that you get weak vapor; above roughly 3.8V thin oil scorches and tastes burnt. If your pen has a pre-heat setting, use it for thick oil in cold weather rather than raising voltage.

How long does a vape pen battery last?

A 350mAh battery covers roughly a day of light use; 900mAh or more suits heavy use. Charge with the supplied cable — fast-charging a small pen battery on a high-output adapter shortens its life.

Can one vape pen do oil, wax and dry herb?

Only multi-function units like the Falcon 6-in-1, which swap atomizers for each material. A standard 510 battery is for cartridges only — putting wax directly on it will not work.

Why is my vape pen not hitting?

Usually a loose connection, a clogged cartridge or a depleted battery. Unscrew and reseat the cart, check the centre pin makes contact, and try a pre-heat cycle to loosen thickened oil.
